Hi, we are Georgie and Louise and we are the heart and soul behind Norwood Commercial Kitchen.
We have known each other our entire lives. We actually, for Louise's entire life because Georgie is 8 months older which is something that Louise annoyingly likes to remind Georgie of!
We grew up as neighbours in suburban Adelaide, enjoying a quintessential Australian childhood. Our school holidays and weekends were spent in and out of each other's homes, under the sprinkler in front yards, riding a go kart that Louise's dad built on the street with the other neighbourhood kids, going for long walks and truly living our best lives.
We grew up and shared the bus ride to University together, shared heartbreaks, successes, failures, and everything in between. Georgie studied Science and Louise studied Law and eventually student life ended.
The seed of an idea for Norwood Commercial Kitchen began.
Louise began working and Georgie moved to Melbourne to pursue her passion for food science. That move saw Georgie eventually relocate to regional Australia where she met her husband. Together they pursued their careers and raised their 3 children in regional Victoria, Sydney, New Zealand and China before relocating back to Adelaide.
During those 20 years Louise pursued her legal and political career, married, had two children and found a passion for nutrition and health.
The seed of an idea for Norwood Commercial Kitchen began during the Covid years but was shelved as Georgie was still living abroad at that time.
Small businesses needed to be able to pursue business without the crippling overheads of running their own kitchens.
In August 2022 we were having lunch for Louise's birthday and contemplating our next adventures.
Georgie spoke again of her dream to build a commercial kitchen.
She had seen the model around the world and felt that small businesses in Adelaide needed the same opportunity to pursue their businesses without crippling overheads of running their own kitchens.
She also knew the food safety risks of running a food business from home and wanted to help small businesses run safer, more profitable businesses and businesses that could grow to provide security for their owners.
It was far more complex, stressful and expensive than we ever imagined.
We knew of an old warehouse in Norwood and bartered with the owners to let us build a commercial kitchen there. It was far more complex, stressful and expensive than we ever imagined.
We came up against gender bias, our own inexperience and the normal stressors of making ends meet in a small business. We took out a significant loan and promised each other that we would work hard to make our new business successful!
So here we are.

Running a kitchen has lots of hidden costs and we look after all the hassles of a commercial kitchen so that our customers can come and do what they do best - create delicious food for their customers.
Businesses can come in, make food and sell food without the pressure of running their kitchen full time.
